Description

Zanzicode is providing a small number of motivated students from poor backgrounds in Zanzibar (Tanzania) a cost-free education in the area of web development for one year. The aim of this course is to enable the graduates of this school to start a career as a local web developer. Furthermore it should contribute in establishing a local software development community. We think the time is perfect due to the SEACOM broadband cable being connected to Africa's east coast. Measures of capacity building - such as our course - contribute to minimizing the "digital divide" and are a first step to the empowerment of young Africans. In the long term this should help our graduates to found an own business and therefore strengthen the local economy. To ensure the appropriateness of material we are teaching, we have employed a local teacher and collaborate with the local NGO Aidnet Zanzibar. To prove the quality of our education, we train our students to accomplish the exam for the internationally recognized w3schools certificate.
