On the website http://www.trueaustria.com I would like to gather information in various languages on Austrian migration law, statistics and stories on the situation of immigrants living in Vienna, media coverage on immigrants and voices of immigrants themselves.
What I would like to show is the (often quite tough) situation of people coming here to Austria in the hope of a bettering of their situation as compared to their original countries.
Aim
The project should raise awareness about immigration beneath the Austrian public apart from often biased reports in mainstream media (Krone, Heute) and provide contexts and insights into the living situation of immigrants here.
On the other hand the information gathered on the site should contribute to a clarification of the romantic picture of Austria (and subsequently Europe) in the minds of potential immigrants and the public opinion of less developed countries. In the mid term this website and raising awareness in the Austrian public should result in people calling for changes in law towards better immigration practices.
